Looking Back At Your Preliminary Task (The School Magazine Task), What Do You Feel You Have Learnt In The Progression From It To Full Product

My Preliminary task looks very basic now when I look back at it and the colour scheme is not attractive.
The layout however is similar to the final magazine.

I have learnt that making a magazine is far more difficult than I experienced in the preliminary task , this is because  I made a contents page and  a double page spread.

In the preliminary task I have used block colours for the cell lines, now as I look back have learnt that it looks far better if it has the same background
colour.

What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process of Constructing This Product

I have learned lots about using different media programmes whilst producing this magazine, i have learnt lots about how to take  a professional photograph looking in detail at the background and the lighting. I found it very hard at first to get a good image but i also learned how to edit them effectively which is a very useful skill to learn. I had never used blogger before and i am still learning now even though i am nearly at the end of my blog, i find it a useful way to show the progression of creating the magazine. I now feel confident in using these programs in future.

How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience

  • The masthead has a black outline to grab the readers attention
  • The artist on the cover looks fashionable and confident which will then make the audience want to read more about her and find out who she is if they do not already know.
  • The sell lines grab the reader and makes them want to read more in order to find out about 'festival guides' ect.
  • A bar code follows magazine conventions.

  • I have used an editors letter to explain to the reader what to expect from this months magazine, it makes the reader feel excited to read what is coming up in the magazine.
  • Slanted picture to stop the page from becoming boring and everything being straight.
  • Contents list makes content easy to find specific pages in the magazine.

  • Columns break up the page to make it easier for the reader to read.
  • Interesting font for the title to grab the attention of the reader.
  • Photos show different aspects of the artist
  • Photos are arranged all over the page to break up the text and make it not so much like a block of uninteresting text.

  • An introduction of the article to make the reader want to carry on reading.

What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product and Why?

My print production is a music magazine, therefore I am going to use a magazine publisher.
I have conducted some research and I have found some of the main publishers in the industry. They are ..

The publisher that I have chosen is Bauer media, because they have other music genre magazines, a particularly successful one being mojo.
I wanted to use bauer because I thought that I could produce a similar magazine for ‘ discerning and passionate music aficionados’  but  attracted more of a female audience
When I looked on Mojos reader profile it was similar to mine apart from the majority of readers were male. ‘Discerning and passionate music aficionados, the MOJO audience is predominately male (72%) and affluent (36% AB). These heavy consumers of music see their passion as discovery without boundaries, genre and decade being secondary to quality’ .

Who would be the audience for your music magazine?

This reader is male or female aged 17 – 25 and likes indie music. They are interested in fashion. They may be at university or in a full time job but most likely at university. They like socialising and going out with friends and music is an important part of their life. They like going to live music concerts. They don’t have much money as they are students. I think they will shop at places like topshop, urban outfitters and Zara.

How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups

The reader
The readers are represented as keen musicians who are especially passionate about seeing live events and bands. This also shows that the reader likes going out and socialising with friends.
The reader will be a late teenager going into there 20s, there is industry. evidence for this in that  the article on the double page spread is about a young artist and how she is dealing with being in the music industry.
The Artist

The artist is represented as a musician, there is a picture of her with a guitar on the cover and also in the other pictures throughout the magazine.
Lexi is presented as a good role model to people that are younger than her, expressing how important school is, and as she is in the spot light people will look up to her and therefore she is a good influence in this sense.

The reader is passionate about seeing live bands and events, this is shown firstly on the cover with cover lines such as ‘festival guide’ and ‘ your chance to win tickets to see the amazing band little Barrie Live’. Also on the contents page it shows that the magazine features a live section in every issue for keen gig watchers who want to know all the latest concerts.
Lexi Ray is 20 years old, and her article explains how she has found dealing with the music industry at such a young age. It may help aspiring young readers to understand what life is like for a young person like themselves entering that kind of world.
The Artist
In the double page spread it shows that she is just releasing her new album and it has has been successful in the charts, so she is a fairly established artist, but hasn’t been around for a huge amount of time so it is hard to say how successful she is going to become.
Lexi Ray presents herself in the interview as a good role model for younger people because she explains how important it is to try your hardest at school, and even she says that if you want to pursue a music career you can do it after school, you don’t necessarily need to rush into it.
